What are gerbils ?
Gerbils are small furry, active, intelligent, funny and very cute rodents. They have an average life span of 4 years. They originally come from deserts (ex: Mongolia) and therefore, love to dig. They live in groups so you should never consider getting a gerbil on its own. They were first used as laboratory animals, but in the 1970s, thanks to their many advantages, they began to be used as pets. Since then, their popularity has never stopped increasing.
But why are they very popular ? The simple answer is they don’t require much care, they are active during most of the day (unlike hamsters), are very intelligent and are great pets for children over ten. They indeed make great first pets. |
Where should I buy my gerbils ?
You can find gerbils in most pet shops, however I recommend you get them from an experienced breeder. To find the closest one to your house, just type "gerbil breeder" and your location on google.
How much time do they require ?
Gerbils don't require much attention. 30 min to an hour of playing per day is enough.
